2016 Inductee Videos

It was an absolute honour to produce another year's worth of induction videos for the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame, and once again we had the pleasure of chatting with some of this city's sporting icons, and weaving stories from their careers into two and a half minute vignettes.

Much like last year's class, we decided the best place to interview each of the athletes, coaches and builders would be in their natural environments. But the 2016 Class offered a new set of challenges - with legendary rowing coach Mike Spracklen based in the UK, and former NHL hockey player Kent Manderville in Ottawa. And while using Skype to conduct interviews is always a sacrifice in video & audio quality, the personal stories are paramount in this project.

We conducted the rest of the interviews on a two-camera set, and used our Kessler Second Shooter to add a bit of subtle movement to the wide angle shot. Then we layered in images and archival video to bring each of the inductee's stories to life!

The Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame (GVSHOF) recognizes and celebrates the outstanding performances and contributions of athletes, builders, officials and teams from Greater Victoria who have brought distinction to themselves, their sport, community and country.

Every year, GVSHOF hosts an awards dinner at The Westin Bear Mountain Resort attended by the who’s who of Victoria’s sports world, celebrating the induction of top notch athletes to their hall of fame. Our job was to create short video profiles of each of the eight inductees to be played prior to their acceptance speech, and we felt it added even more life to the ceremonies.

It was an honour to meet such renowned athletes, with these shoots taking us from Commonwealth Place to the Victoria Curling Club to a park on Bow River in Banff, Alberta. We look forward to doing it again in 2016!
